🎬 How to Practice Home Movie Therapy

  1. Collect Your Clips:

    • Use old videos, photos, or even re-enact scenes that represent important moments—joyful or painful.

    • No actual footage? No problem—just narrate the story on video or record audio reflections.

  1. Create Mini Films:

    • Organize your content around a theme (e.g., “The Day I Found My Voice” or “When Everything Changed”).

    • You can edit these using basic apps or simply compile a slideshow with narration or text overlays.

  1. Watch with Intention:

    • View your creation like an observer. What do you notice about your emotional patterns, strengths, or growth?

    • Ask: What would I say to this person (my past self) if they were a character in a movie?

  1. Reflect and Release:

    • Journal your reactions.

    • Talk to a trusted friend or therapist about what surfaced.

    • Use insights to reframe your story in a way that feels healing and empowering.

🎥 Focus Areas by Topic

  • Stress: Show times when you were overwhelmed—and how you found relief. End with a “toolkit” scene: what works for you now.

  • Anger: Revisit moments of conflict. Explore your feelings, what you wish you’d said, or how you’ve learned to cope better.

  • Self-Esteem: Highlight wins, kind words from others, or moments of courage. Create a “highlight reel” of your worth.

  • Life Transitions: Document the before, during, and after of big changes. Capture your resilience and evolving identity.
